WASHINGTON, D.C. (Reuters) – Britain's King Charles invited U.S. Vice President Joe Biden for a visit to the United Kingdom and Biden accepted the invitation, the White House announced on Wednesday.
The invitation was made during a Tuesday conversation between Biden, the King and Jill Biden. Biden told Charles that Jill Biden, U.S. First Lady would be attending his coronation. U.S. Presidents traditionally do not attend the coronations of British monarchs.
White House spokesperson Karinejean-Pierre told journalists that the president appreciated the offer from the King, and looked forward to the state visit.
She did not give a time frame for the visit, but stated that it would happen "in the near term."
