The Alamogordo-based hospital has entered into a non-binding agreement to join CHRISTUS Health. This would be a good move for the hospital, as CHRISTUS Health is a well-respected organization.

New Mexico hospital enters agreement to join CHRISTUS Health

A hospital in Alamogordo has signed a non-binding contract to join CHRISTUS Health.

According to a press release, Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Irving, Texas, and Irving-based CHRISTUS Health hope to reach a final agreement before early summer.

In a press release, Gerald Champion CEO Jim Heckert said: 'This is the year we celebrate the 74th anniversary of our hospital. There is no better way for us to honor this legacy than by ensuring we have the financial and resource support we need to continue to serve our community into the future.

Gerald Champion is a Level III Trauma Hospital that is independent and nonprofit. It has 33 medical and surgery specialties and operates 28 primary care and specialty clinics. It also includes wound care, cardiac cath labs, interventional radiology, and a 98 bed acute care facility. The organization has 1,000 employees and 160 providers.

CHRISTUS Health has a presence in Texas, Louisiana New Mexico, Chile Colombia and Mexico. The organization has more than 600 clinics, 45,000 employees and 15,000 doctors.

In a press release, CHRISTUS Health's President and CEO Ernie Sadau said, "We are honored to be able to lead, partner, and advocate innovative health and wellbeing solutions in Alamogordo."

Lillian Montoya is the president and CEO of CHRISTUS St. Vincent in New Mexico. CHRISTUS St. Vincent ranked number one in Albuquerque Business First’s 2022 New Mexico Hospital’s List. CHRISTUS St. Vincent ranked No. 6 with 200 licensed beds in the state.
