Many American colleges are facing breach-of-contract lawsuits for transitioning to online-only instruction during the pandemic. Recently, George Washington University agreed to pay $5.4 million to former students who sued the institution for the sudden shift to online learning and the cancellation of in-person events. Tuition at GW stands at $64,700 for the current academic year, reaching an estimated total cost of attendance of $85,740. The settlement offers $10,000 to four plaintiffs and a $193 tuition refund to other affected students. Eligible students can opt-out and pursue individual suits. GW denies any wrongdoing and is proud of its rapid move to online instruction. #
