How to Safely Restart Your Fitness Regimen after Recovering from Illness #

If you’ve been sidelined by an illness, such as Covid-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), or influenza, and are now ready to resume your exercise routine, it’s important to do so safely. These viral infections can cause inflammation in the body, which may affect the heart and lungs. Recovery time varies, especially for older adults or those with underlying health concerns. After recovering, wait at least 5-7 days before returning to the gym and ensure you can perform daily activities without excessive fatigue. Consult a physician before resuming exercise if you had Covid-19 with heart- or lung-related symptoms. When restarting, start slow and gradually increase the intensity. Keep an eye on your heart rate, pay attention to how you feel, and stay hydrated and well-nourished throughout the process. Remember that reducing the workload doesn’t mean losing your progress.
