Meteors will stream across the sky in one of the year's most anticipated celestial shows
·1 min
It’s time for the most anticipated meteor shower of the summer: the Perseids. The shower is set to peak between Sunday and before dawn Monday, with up to 100 meteors expected per hour. Bill Cooke, head of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office, described the Perseids as the richest meteor shower of the year. This year is optimal for watching the shower because moonlight conditions will not wash out faint meteors. To view the Perseids, find the darkest sky possible and lie flat on your back, avoiding sources of light. The best time to view the shower is after midnight around 2 a.m.
