Ever since an artist was accused of sexual harassment in 2017, he has been largely sidelined by the art world. However, his longtime gallerist has organized what he says will be the artist’s first major exhibition in New York since 2016, giving him closure. The exhibition is considered important as it represents the synthesis of the artist’s work over the years. The artist, who died at 81, made colossal photorealist portraits of himself and others in the 1970s and ’80s. Despite facing health challenges, including paralysis and dementia, the artist’s influence is still recognized today.
