Fashion Month Closes with Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton Embracing Ambiguity #

The final day of fashion month saw the Miu Miu show open with an art installation that transformed the runway space into a newspaper printing plant. The piece, titled ‘Salt Looks Like Sugar,’ explored themes of ambiguity in a ‘post-truth era,’ questioning the nature of fact and fiction.

This theme of uncertainty seemed to permeate the entire fashion month, with many designers struggling to define the future of style. The result was a lot of archive-diving and reliance on past successes, particularly evident in brands like Chanel, which is currently between artistic directors.

However, both Miuccia Prada at Miu Miu and Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton chose to embrace this confusion, turning it into a creative advantage.

At Miu Miu, Prada juxtaposed elements of athletic wear with delicate white cotton pieces, mixing in ’70s graphics and floral bouquets. The collection featured unexpected combinations like bejeweled Western belts over nurse-like uniforms and bras with hanging straps creating ruffles over tight sweaters.

Ghesquière’s collection for Louis Vuitton similarly celebrated contradictions, combining Renaissance volumes with modern athleisure. The runway showcased 16th-century jackets paired with biker shorts, and ornate ’80s power shirting over velvet breeches and pleated chiffon bloomers.

Both designers seemed to revel in the tension between different elements, creating looks that were initially jarring but ultimately compelling. This embrace of seemingly nonsensical combinations emerged as one of the strongest ideas of the month.

The season also saw the emergence of some unusual trends, including fuzzy, life-raft-like shoes and the controversial one-leg pant. While the former appeared in several collections, including Sacai’s deconstruction of French archetypes, the one-leg pant remains a step too far for many.

In a fashion landscape filled with uncertainty, these designers chose to turn confusion into creativity, offering a fresh perspective on how to approach style in unpredictable times.
