The US Food and Drug Administration has authorized an updated version of the Novavax Covid-19 vaccine for people aged 12 and up. The protein-based vaccine works by getting the immune system to recognize modified pieces of the virus spike protein. The FDA emphasized the importance of vaccination in preventing Covid-19 and encourages people to consider getting the updated vaccine. The CDC has recommended updated vaccines for everyone over 6 months old, along with a flu shot this year. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines have already been authorized. The Novavax vaccine will be available in thousands of locations across the country.
