A new study shows that the vast majority of America's wealthiest people live in California and New York. They are located in ZIP codes with homes costing around $2 million.

In the United States, the top 100 most expensive ZIP code to own a house is 61 in California, and 18 in New York.

According to an analysis done by online realtor RealtyHop

Connecticut, Florida Massachusetts and New Jersey were among the 10 states that made it onto the list.

The median listing price of a home within the top 10 ZIP codes is at least $4 million.

Atherton in California is the most expensive ZIP Code to own a house for the fourth consecutive year, according to a study. The town is located near Stanford University, a hub of Silicon Valley tech executives and has a median list price of $7.95million.

Then comes the 90210 ZIP code, named after the popular '90s TV show "Beverly Hills 90210." The median price of homes in this part of Los Angeles is $6.29million.

Sagaponack is the third-placed destination in New York. It is an exclusive Long Island resort located in the Hamptons, where the median price of a house is $5.9million.
