HOUSTON, Texas (AP) - UConn delivered another basketball thrashing Saturday. Adama Sanogo scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help UConn defeat Miami 72-59. The win moves UConn one step closer to its fifth national championship.
Jordan Hawkins scored 13 points for the Huskies after overcoming a stomach bug. The Huskies were the only team in the Final Four with experience of college basketball's last weekend, and they had the highest seeding among the four teams at Houston -- No. 4.
They were the best on the court against Miami's fifth seed from the beginning. UConn jumped out to a 9-0 advantage with three consecutive 3s, including a jumper by Hawkins and slam shots from Sanogo.
The Huskies face San Diego State in the final game on Monday. San Diego State became the first Final Four team to win a game by hitting a buzzer beater after trailing. They defeated Florida Atlantic 72-71.
This was a record-breaker. The Huskies (30-8) are back to their usual self. UConn won by a double-digit margin over Miami, its closest victory in five games of the tournament.
Isaiah Wong led Miami with 15 points, scoring on 4 of 10 shots. Sanogo and 7-foot-2 Donovan Clingan, as well as the other long-armed and rangy Connecticut perimeter players, harassed Miami constantly. The team, which had the fifth best offense in the country, only shot 25 percent in the first-half and 33.3% in the entire game.
